october caddis emerger | a hopper in sheeps clothing
(click any photos for enlargement)
Fall provides trout with some vivid colors, but so do the
insects during the months of late September through November. My
Fall emergers that I tie even during hopper season provide me with
a lot of late-season action. Takes on these are particularly violent.
Often, these caddis patterns are mistaken for small hoppers and vice versa.
Using a Hanak 300 BL #16, I dress it accordingly for proper flotation.
These hooks are heavier than most, being of medium wire gauge. I opt for a
heavier hook because these morsels get hit so hard that I've straightened
my “fine wire” Partridge and Tiemco hooks out frequently.
