Making Your Own Low Profile Adjustment Knob on the Renzetti Master Vise

Above photo: Before and after size of Renzetti adjustment knob
So after working on the Renzetti Master Vise for over four months I finally decided to mill down the adjustment screw head on the jaws. I wanted to create something lower in profile so I could eliminate things hitting or scraping the edges of the knob. I was turning some bamboo rod hardware this morning and the knob just kept nagging my brain. My father was a MIT engineer so its in my gene code to fix my own problems. The knob is so close to the business end of the jaw that I figured I would eliminate the bulk of it and taper it. It functions exactly the same and I'm very happy with the results. Now all I have to do is blue it and I'm good to go. The diameter and thickness were taken down incrementally. Having a jewelers background as well as fabrication helps but honestly it would not take much for Renzetti to make this an accessory. The rest of their accessory line is superb.

As you can see I have taken and changed the profile quite a bit but not having knurling makes no difference, the knob is still very easy to turn since there is little or no resistance on this screw.

Smaller diameter and smaller thickness makes all the difference in
getting my hands around smaller flys.
The above video gives you an idea of the difference in the knob profile, less material makes the adjustment knob less of an obstacle around the jaw tips. Now all that I need to do is blue the aluminum with some Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black and I'm good to go.

thanks for letting me share~ Clint
